Both Rocky View County and the Town of Cochrane have issued fire bans.

The ban for Rocky View County is in effect immediately because of dry and windy conditions which create a high risk for fires.

The ban in the Town of Cochrane will be implemented at 1 p.m. today (Monday).

There was a large grass fire just outside of Cochrane on Friday evening that resulted in 40 households being told to evacuate.

Luckily fire crews were able to get the blaze under control and no homes were burned and no one was injured.

During this fire ban, all burning permits are suspended, and burning is banned, with these following exceptions:

  • Internal household fire places
  • Camp stoves (properly attended)
  • Propane/natural gas barbecues
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Oil well flaring (registration required -- call 403.264.1022)

This ban will remain in effect as long as these high risk conditions stick around.
