The Rocky View Schools (RVS) division has updated its 2021/2022 Return to School Operational Plan to align with the latest COVID-19 restrictions announced by the province.

Alberta has once again entered a State of Public Health Emergency. On Wednesday, provincial leaders announced aggressive new measures to protect the healthcare system and slow the spread of the virus.

In a letter to parents, RVS Board Chair, Fiona Gilbert and Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach say that the board continues to rely on the direction and guidance of Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The main changes to RVS' operational plan are as follows:

  • Maximizing physical distancing
  • Cohorting of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6
  • Pausing school-wide / group indoor activities
  • Further strengthening masking requirements for all students and staff

RVS will continue to adjust plans as the pandemic evolves and they have established two contingency plans.

Contingency 1: In-School Learning with Enhanced Health Measures

Contingency 2:  At-Home Learning

In their letter, Gilbert and Luterbach acknowledge that the new measures will be received with mixed reactions and they thank the broader school communities for their continued patience.
