The Rocky View County (RVC) council has given the thumbs up to assist several capital projects for recreational facilities that are commonly utilized by Cochrane and area residents.

Of the approved requests for 2017 community recreation funding capital, the county will be providing the Cochrane BMX Association with up to $30,000 to assist with purchasing a new start hill gate.

The Cochrane Roping Club have been approved for funding up to $6,650 to purchase cattle enclosures to be located at the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society. 

They also approved funding of up to $5,773 to the Weedon Pioneer Community Association to replace fencing and gates on their property, 10 km north of town.

Funding for all three of those projects come from the Ranch Lands District Reserve.

South of town, the Jumping Pound Community Hall Society is receiving up to $29,000 from the Rocky View West District Reserve to replace the vinyl siding and renovate the west end of the hall.

The county allocates community capital funding on a cost-sharing basis of up to 50 per cent of the total project cost. Funds are awarded both the spring and in the fall. A total of $161,783.43 was approved at the council's Nov. 28 meeting.
