Board of trustee chair Norma Lang says a meeting with Education minister Adriana LaGrange and her deputy minister has assured Rocky View Schools (RVS) of the ministry's commitment to building four new schools, one of which is for Cochrane.

"We do appreciate the commitment that they've made ultimately to build the schools that were announced for our school division," says Lang. "Rocky View Schools will complete the work that we need to do any and all work required for planning so that all four of our priority projects will be considered for construction funding next spring."

While none of the four schools received full funding in the budget, an Airdrie K-8 received design funding and a new 9 to 12 school in that city was listed as a school planning program project. One Cochrane school, either a K to 5 or K to 8, is part of the pre-planning program.

"I want to believe that we can work with the ministry on the required planning that they're going to require from us so that construction funding can happen, and construction funding can be announced sooner rather than later."

The school division went public in its push for more schools before the budget and expressed initial disappointment when the construction list was announced.

A new tiered new school projects list was launched with the new schools announced a few weeks ago.
