Every year families celebrate Mother's Day, and Father's Day, but may not be aware there is a week to appreciate the seniors in their lives as well.

Alberta Seniors' Week runs from June 6-12, and has been held annually for 30 years.

Shannon Bannister, Town of Cochrane Seniors Programmer says, the week is aimed at acknowledging the Province's seniors, and everything they contribute to our lives.

"Seniors are just a big part of our community; from volunteering, to helping family members, to working in the community," she says. "It's so important to celebrate them, because they just contribute so much to Cochrane, they do so much."

The Town of Cochrane in partnership with Seniors on the Bow Centre at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre have planned events for every day of seniors' week.

Bannister adds if a senior can't make it to one of the events, they can always make their way to Seniors on the Bow.

"The Seniors on the Bow Centre has 365 members, its growing every week. We have lots of programs happening. We get a lot of usage from a lot of people, we have a lot to offer."

She explains all drop-in programs at SOTB will also be free for seniors throughout the week.
