Rocky View Schools will be holding their Second Annual Helping Hands Cleanup campaign this week, April 25-29.

Cochrane Christian Academy and Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School are two local schools that have signed up to take part.

The event is held to recognize Earth Day on April 22, but since students were on Easter Break the cleanup will take place this week.

Throughout the week, students and staff from most schools across the division will be donning some gloves and collecting garbage that has accumulated over the winter months on the playground areas.

Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach says, “This is a great opportunity for students and staff to build community, show school spirit, and take pride in their school facility while observing Earth Day and its message of environmental stewardship."

Rocky View Schools show their appreciation to participating schools by supplying food prizes to the classes that find the most valuable item, the weirdest item, the largest item, and display the best school spirit.

The staff at the Education Centre in Airdrie will pitch in too and be out collecting garbage from around the centre.

The inaugural Helping Hands Cleanup was in April of 2021.
