The first mini-food bank drive of Helping Hands was a huge success last weekend in Gleneagles and east end neighbourhoods.

Now finishing touches are being added to a wide-sweeping food collection in West Valley, West Terrace, West Pointe, Bow Meadows, Bow Ridge, and Jumping Pound on June 27.

"We have some volunteers that have been team leads in the past but we're definitely looking for more volunteers, and more team leads," says Chairra Nicolle, Helping Hands volunteer programs coordinator. "Anyone can come to help us out, we'd love that."

They do ask people to step forward in advance so teams and routes can be properly planned.

Those wanting to volunteer can contact Helping Hands via its social media, by emailing fooddrive@helpinghandscochrane.ca or by phoning 587-580-9448.

On June 13, about 40 volunteers went door-to-door in the Gleneagles and east end neighbourhoods.

"We collected about 240-plus boxes of food for the food bank, which is amazing, especially since we had a limited time to get it going," says Nicolle.

This is the last food drive until August.
