Update: The warning has ended for Cochrane and area

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cochrane. 

Parts of Rocky View County are also under the warning including near Bottrel and Madden. 

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms that is capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail as well as torrential rain.

This line is approximately 20 km west of Benchlands to 5 km northeast of Benchlands, and is heading to the south at 10 km/h.

You are asked to take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

In the event of a heavy downpour, it could cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The weather service warns that large hail can damage property and cause injury.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
