As they continue to battle against domestic violence in the Cochrane community, Big Hill Haven has received another generous contribution to aid in their cause.

Shoppers Drug Mart gifted Big Hill Haven a cheque worth $6,566 on Thursday to honour a fundraiser that had taken place last fall.

Big Hill Haven’s Fund Development Officer, Tara McFadden, wasted little time thanking Shoppers Drug Mart for their contribution, “Big Hill Haven just wanted to thank Shoppers Drug Mart here in Cochrane, for being such great, longtime supporters of Big Hill Haven. You know, cheques like this and also the community support that went into making these donations happen, is just huge for us and our ability to make a difference to provide to the supports that women need and the housing.”

This donation is a huge gift for Big Hill Haven as they aid women in need who are struggling through domestic abuse. McFadden spoke about how the community of Cochrane can get more involved in their organization. “Online, at our website at Big Hill Haven dot com, we have a number of different programs there. We have a monthly donor program called “The Hundred For The Haven” and we are actually looking for a hundred donors to commit $100 a month for a year, for better options for Big Hill Haven and the women and families in our care.”

Big Hill Haven’s approach to this issue is nothing short of refreshing. Jenessa Blanchet, one of the newest board members, spoke about the importance of Big Hill Haven, “I just think it’s a fantastic organization and it’s definitely something that’s needed in Cochrane and for it to support the surrounding area. So, I’ve always been a huge admirer of the work that the previous board members and other people have done. So, it’s really fantastic to join an organization that’s already done so much, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do going forward.”
