The math has been completed and the resulting equation coming out the Sunday's game is good news for the Jr. Ladies Silvertips.

The Tips defeated the Calgary Axemen, 12-5, and that number equals a berth into the provincials. Currently they sit in third place with a 8-5-1 record and are the top team in Southern Alberta.

Winning one for their dads, the June 18 started slow but the victory grew more imminent as the game progressed.

The Axemen lead 2-1 at the end of the first period. They struck first but the Tips answered back with a power play goal from Taylor McElroy (Annie Morrison and Kara Kondrat). The Axemen regained the lead with six minutes remaining in the period.

The Tips offensive power surfaced in the second. Christina Olver scored on power play (Lauren Murphy and Kara Kondrat), and then again from Kondrat to take their first lead of the game. The Axemen rallied for two goals before Taylor McElroy came in hot on a breakaway to score. The Tips gained a 5-4 lead by period end with a goal by Lauren Murphy from Rovanna Irvin and Kondrat.

The Tips cleaned house in the third, sinking six. Scoring were Kondrat unassisted, Morrison (McElroy), Olver, and Murphy (McElroy and Morrison) before a wild last minute of play. Affiliate Emma Arifin (Mackenzie Cameron) scored with 56 seconds remaining, then the Axemen snuck one in at 14 seconds before the Tips' McElroy lit it up with nine seconds left on the clock.

There were hat tricks earned by Taylor McElroy, Christina Olver and Lauren Murphy.

Scores in previous games between the two have been tight with the Tips winning one and tying the other.

The Provincials feature the top four teams in Alberta and are being held in Sherwood Park, July 6 to 9. But before then the Tips have two games remaining in their regular schedule. The Tips end their regular season at home against the Cougars, June 23, and the Saints, June 25.
