Cochrane's Simon Baker has won a silver medal at the Canada Summer Games as a member of Alberta's male baseball team.

Alberta shut out British Columbia, 4-0, to advance to the final against Team Ontario on Aug. 13. They settled for silver in Saturday's gold medal game, losing 11-1.

Alberta had a strong preliminary round, winning their first four games before losing their final one to Manitoba, 15-4. That put them at the top of their pool and advanced them to the semifinals.

Baker, 16, is a centre fielder for the Webber Wildcats and has played the sport since age 6.

Competition gets underway this week for Rocky View County lacrosse player Wyatt Viste. Today they open play in the preliminary round against Nova Scotia.

Cochrane road cyclist Kaden Colling also competes this week.

Alberta is currently third in the medal standings with 23 gold, 17 silver, and 23 bronze. Ontario is at the top and British Columbia is second.

The summer games continue until Aug. 21 in Ontario's Niagara region.
