Registration is open for the Kimmett Cup charity three-on-three tournament, and if you move quickly, you can take advantage of a smokin' hot deal.

Teams registered by noon on Dec. 6 pay only $200. After that, it doubles to $400.

Reid Kimmett, one of the organizers, says they're encouraging as many teams as possible to register early. In recognition of the tough times being faced by many during the pandemic, they've also lowered the full registration fee to $400 from $475.

The three-on-three charity tournament is being held from Feb. 4 to 6, 2022. It was last played in 2020.

"We're confident we can put on a safe event and have the community come together again," says Kimmett. "Playing hockey, remembering Lindsay, raising money for charity, these are all things I think we all kind of need right now."

Typically, about 50 teams participate and it involves 500 people.

To keep everyone safe, several safety protocols have been put in place by the organizing committee, which includes two emergency physicians. The measures are designed to encourage social distancing, promote hand hygiene, and prevent symptomatic individuals from entering the tournament area.

In addition, all players and volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination, negative test results, or medical exemption to participate.

At the heart of the event is raising much-needed funds for worthy causes and initiatives. In 12 years, it has raised over $2.75 million in memory of Lindsay Leigh Kimmett.

"It's been humbling how much support we've received and how much people have rallied around our family and my sister. We just want to keep that going, keep that number growing and keep adding to the legacy."

Kimmett says it's been a tough time for charities, and a major focus will be placed on raising funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Children's Cottage Society.

The traditional banquet is an emotionally-charged evening that helps escalate the amount raised. Some tentative plans have been put in place should it be allowed to proceed.

"We're hoping that the climate is such that we can put that on because that's really the heartbeat of the event, I would say even more so than the hockey. That's where the heart and soul of the whole thing shines through."
