A snowfall warning has been put into place by Environment Canada for the Cochrane region, with between 15 and 25 cms expected to fall by noon on Monday.

The warning indicates that those snowfall totals are expected in the following areas:

  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane

5 to 10 cms of snow will fall today with similar amounts expected to fall tonight.  The snow will become light and is expected to stop by about noon on Monday.  After a clear and cold night with a low of minus 9 Monday, things begin to almost get back to normal.  The high on Tuesday is forecast to be four before we hit double digits on Wednesday and Thursday.

Roads in southern Alberta are suffering from the snowfall as well.  511Alberta reports most of southern Alberta is experiencing the snow this morning which is making roads either partly or fully snow-covered.  They say some areas are also experiencing only fair or poor visibility with the snow.

Plows and sanders are out in southern Alberta and 511Alberta is reminding drivers to always keep a safe driving distance between themselves and the plows.
