The Cochrane Curling Club's popular ladies bonspiel is another sold-out affair.

The first draw of the 32-team event begins at 3:30 this afternoon (Feb. 10), and wraps up with the semifinals and finals on Sunday afternoon.

Barb Gibson said the event sold out a few weeks ago and they're fired up about the weekend ahead.

"We've had someone on the wait list hoping somebody may drop out, but everybody that's registered is ready to go and excited about coming," says Gibson.

She says the bonspiel is about the curling, but always includes fun activities and plenty of socializing.

"We always have a theme and quite a few of the ladies do get dressed up and show off their silliness, which is lots of fun. The theme for the bonspiel is vacation and this vacation will not get cancelled," she says laughing.

She says they have many wonderful sponsors and every team in the local ladies league, whether they're playing in the bonspiel or not, donate gift baskets for the silent auction

Besides Cochrane, teams are coming from Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks, Drumheller, and Canmore, as well as a player from Red Deer.

"Everybody seems to enjoy coming here, and we have great ice."
