Sophia Nowicki ran her last race after six years for St.Tim's on Friday (June 2), earning a silver medal.

While Nowicki's coach Travis Cummings thought she ran a strong race, Nowicki wasn't as thrilled with her result.

"I am rarely ever happy with a race so I was not specifically happy with it just because of my time. I was really hoping for a PB (personal best) and I was about 6 seconds off from a PB so it was kind of frustrating in that I was so close to getting one and I just missed it. So personally I am not exactly happy with it just because of that."

Nowicki ran the 3000m in 10:37.45, and in her opinion she could have shaved off sometime in the beginning of the race earning her a PB.

"The second half of my race was really strong and the last lap my coach said I ran a 78 where in the beginning I was running a 92 and it should have been more like 85. So I could have shaved of those six seconds from the race but it had to be in the beginning; I guess it was hard for me to pace myself for that. It was a good place, but I wish my time had been better."

Placing in medal standings is always good, however, Nowicki says her racing mentality is more about challenging herself.

"It is no longer a placing thing, it is time. Even I had broken my PB I still would have gotten silver so I feel like I can get more done when I focus on my time and it gives me something more to work towards. My biggest competition is just racing against my own time."

As Nowicki looks back over her six year history of running track; she says the best piece of advice she can leave behind is run your own race.

"Focus on your own races and your own times rather than focusing in on other people."

Nowicki runs again this weekend for club track meet in which she is still involved with.
