For the second year running, a St. Timothy High School curling team has won the women's division of the Calgary City Championship and is heading to the high school provincial championships.

Skip Elspeth Cooper, who was third for last year's team, says they're looking forward to returning to the provincials.

"I'm really excited that we won the City \Championship," says Cooper. "It was a great moment."

The team includes fellow curling veteran Julianna MacKenzie at third and two rookie curlers who learned the sport this season. Second is Brooke Mackie, lead  Erin Schoombee, and Taylor Ness is the alternate. The team is coached by Brittany Toth.

Since November, St. Tim students have been holding weekly sessions at the Cochrane Curling Centre.

It's there that long-time curlers Cooper and MacKenzie provided the ins and outs of the sports to their teammates.

"They really improved, especially by playing more games," says MacKenzie. "By seeing how the other teams were playing, they learned more about the game and developed. That was really good."

The Cooper Rink play Cochrane High's Cinnamon Rink, the south-central zone champs, in their opening draw.

Both Cooper and MacKenzie are currently in Sexsmith preparing to compete for the provincial U18 championship as part of Team Bakos.
