It’s officially storm season!

While most people run and hide from hail, tornadoes, and flying debris, a fundraising event in Cochrane today is looking to support the select few who drive straight into crazy weather.

The Cochrane Movie House is hosting a special movie screening for The Prairie Storm Chasers.

“We're gonna be playing our CBC documentary, which is about a five-minute clip that we did back in 2019. Then we're gonna play the 1996 classic 'Twister'” explains Cochrane’s own Braydon Morisseau with The Prairie Storm Chasers.

The funds raised from ticket sales will go a long way in making sure their equipment is ready for whatever Mother Nature can throw at them.

“With severe weather season coming, we're looking to do some research into hail this year. We're going to be making these sensors to measure the velocity and density of hailstones when they hit these pads that we'll have on the vehicle.”

Cochrane Movie House owner Hal Wolf says it’s always a pleasure to host local groups.

“We were more than happy to pair up with them to help raise funds for storm chasing and also to bring a little bit more exposure to storm chasing and the advancements that they have made.”

“The research that they get is is outstanding and what they've been able to accomplish over the years is amazing.”

“Personally. I think they're absolutely crazy.” Wolf jokes. “I go the other direction when it comes to storms. I don't want to go driving straight into them!”

Tickets for the Thursday night event are going fast and are available here.
