Today Strathmore RCMP held a press conference to address a child abduction in the community.

Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz, Strathmore RCMP Detachment Commander, provided a brief statement and answered questions concerning the recent abduction of a female youth.

On May 31, 2022, RCMP received a call at about 6 p.m. the victim was walking home from her school bus drop-off at approximately 3:30 p.m. when she was approached by two males in a white pick-up. The youth was reportedly forced into the truck and brought to a residence. The victim was able to get away and run to safety.

Strathmore RCMP are investigating this matter as a priority. At this time police do not have a clear description of the suspect(s) or the vehicle; however, they are asking the public to be extra vigilant with their children as a precaution. Further information will be released when known.

“I fully appreciate this incident may be both unsettling and disturbing. Our Detachment has increased patrols and visibility in our communities. Our priority is to ensure public safety, and to conduct a thorough investigation. We are also taking steps to support the victim in this matter. I can assure our residents we remain committed to the safety of our community and will provide more information as quickly as we can, said Wielgosz. Anyone believing that a crime has been or is about to be committed is encouraged to call police. If the matter is felt to be of an urgent nature, please call 911 immediately.

RCMP say the female youth is not missing and has been found.
