The first of two spring food drives which was scheduled for April 10, has been postponed.

Last month the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area announced the dates for two spring food drives in support of the Cochrane Activettes, with the first scheduled to kick off this weekend.

Helping Hands Executive Director Chairra Nicolle says that with the tightening up of COVID-19 restrictions, and move back to Step 1; the organizers decided it was best to wait.

"We made the call to, unfortunately, postpone Saturday's East/Central food drive until June," says Nicolle. "We thought it was best and safest based on the current community spread."

The East /Central food drive was scheduled to take place in the neighbourhoods of:

  • GlenEagles
  • East End
  • Downtown
  • Glenbow
  • Riverview
  • Greystone

Nicolle says that for now, the plan is to visit those neighbourhoods sometime in June, dependant on the rules in place.

"We hope to reschedule these areas for collection in June so please hang on to your donations or drop them off at any grocery store food bank box," says Nicolle.

The date for the second spring food drive remains the same for now and is currently scheduled for May 15, 2021.

The May food drive is set for the West Side communities of:

  • West Valley
  • West Terrace
  • West Pointe
  • Heartland
  • Heritage Hills
  • Bow Meadows
  • Bow Ridge
  • Jumping Pound
