The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane is looking for bike donations for its final used bike collection for this calendar year.

Each year the local club collects used bikes from community donations, and they have them tuned up and brought to safety standards so they can be enjoyed by local kids in need.

In wake of the COVID pandemic, they switched gears this year, to hold a series of month-long collections. Club President, Ron Gosselin says that this next round-up of bikes will be recycled and distributed to the Cochrane Activettes as part of their ‘Share Your Christmas’ program.

"We're going to take all these bikes and bring them to the recycler in preparation for the Christmas Season," explains Gosselin. "A lot of families through the Activettes, as for bikes for their kids."

The local club will be accepting the used bike donations on September 15 and 16 from 3 to 9 p.m.

They're asking anyone who has some extra bikes kicking around that they'd like to donate, to email a photo first.

"It doesn't have to be perfect but in decent condition," explains Gosselin. "Send us an email with a picture of the bike so we can assess whether or not it's decent enough to be recycled."

They're hoping to collect about 30 bikes this time around. Gosselin says that they'll be dropping off the final batch of used bikes to the recycler on Friday, September 17.
