The Vatican Press Office released details about Pope Francis's visit to Alberta next month.

The Pope is coming to apologize for the abuse Indigenous people suffered by the Catholic Church and hold a stadium-sized Mass.

Pope Francis will arrive in Edmonton on July 24, where he will receive an official welcome.

On July 25, he will travel to the community of Maskwacis to meet with First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in the area. Following his stop in Maskwacis, he will travel back to Edmonton to meet with Indigenous people and members of the Parish Community of Sacred Heart.

Two pieces are on the agenda on July 26, starting with a public Mass at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. After this Mass, he will travel to Lac Ste. Anne, where he will participate in a pilgrimage and Liturgy of the Word.

The Pope will leave Edmonton on July 27.

While his stay in Alberta will be short, the Pope will remain in Canada longer, as he will also visit Quebec and Nunavut.
