Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced on Wednesday, February 24 that Albertans 75 years of age and older will be able to get their vaccine through 100 participating community pharmacies.

Appointments will begin in the first week of March and the more vaccine that arrives the more pharmacies will begin to offer the vaccine.

Minister Shandro said, "Alberta’s community pharmacists continue to work tirelessly on the front lines, and we thank them for their efforts. Adding pharmacies to the vaccine rollout will allow us to continue ramping up our distribution program. As more vaccines become available, we will continue to expand our approach. We will keep administering vaccines as quickly and safely as possible.”

For now,  the initiative will only be in Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer but it is hoped to expand into other communities.  Alberta Health is currently working with Alberta Pharmacists' Association on the expansion.

Participating pharmacies have been selected on geographic and population needs along with the demonstrated ability to administer large volumes of vaccinations.
