Cochrane Municipal Enforcement is reminding pet owners of the responsibilities that go hand in hand with having animals.

The Town of Cochrane Administration reports lost and missing animals on close to a weekly basis; measures that can most often be avoided if pets are properly secured.

According to the animal bylaws in place, cats and dogs must be on a leash throughout the town's public spaces. In a social media post, Town Officials say that pets should be "secured on your property, or on a leash unless visiting one of the town’s off-leash parks."

The Town of Cochrane offers four off-leash areas for dogs to roam freely.

Officials also warn of the dangers of allowing cats to roam freely outside, saying that they can easily become prey for coyotes and other wildlife in the area.

Cochrane Animal Services say their "goal is to help pet owners care responsibly for their pets" and promote a healthy and safe co-existence with Cochrane residents.
