The sacrifice of the many who laid down their lives for our nation has not been forgotten by the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

On. Nov. 6, Legionnaires Shaun Simpson, Steve Merritt, and Brian Walford visited Cochrane area cemeteries to lay wreaths at the graves of veterans.

Simpson, who is currently serving as a Cadet Instructor Cadre working with the cadet program in Calgary, says it's crucial to lay the wreaths each year.

"I think it's important that we remember all the people who served in our community and remember what they sacrificed so we could have the freedoms that we enjoy today."

Walford completed extensive research for the Legion a few years ago on the service records of veterans laid to rest here. This is the first time he has participated in the laying of the wreaths.

The Legion continues to expand upon its database. Simpson says any information on their military service would be greatly appreciated. It can be forwarded to cochranelegion@shaw.ca.
