One man has been charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop during the Tour of Alberta road closures.

On Friday, Sept. 2, an RCMP member assisting with traffic control about one kilometre West of Cochrane noticed a car heading westbound on the closed highway, and stopped the vehicle.

During the stop the member noted the driver appeared to be intoxicated, along with two other males in the vehicle.

The 19 year old male driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken to the Cochrane RCMP detachment where he provided breath samples which were nearly double the legal limit.

The two passengers, a 19 year old male and 16 year old male were also arrested and transported to the Cochrane RCMP detachment.

Overall, Cochrane RCMP saw a drop in calls this long weekend, down to 185 from over 200 over the August long weekend.

Only 36 complaints were made in regards to traffic collisions, traffic complaints, erratic driving, and impaired complaints.

Cochrane RCMP would like to encourage citizens call the complaint line at 403-932-2211 when they see erratic driving behaviours or call 911 when they believe that someone is driving a vehicle when they are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
