As of 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a fire restriction is now in effect for the Town of Cochrane.
"The decision to implement a fire restriction has been made based on the current and anticipated weather conditions. Fire hazard conditions are at a level where wildland fires can start and grow quickly." details a social media post put of by The Town of Cochrane.
Town, backyard, and charcoal briquette barbecues are no longer permitted. Firepits at Riverfront Park, Mitford Park, and Cochrane Ranche are now closed.
Wood burning fires in screened appliances such as indoor/outdoor fireplaces or Forno ovens are permitted, as well as gas or propane stoves/barbecues and portable propane fire pits and fire tables are allowed. Fires are permitted in campgrounds and approved commercial facilities.
The restriction notice shall be in effect until such time as the fire chief’s office deems appropriate to change for purposes of the Town of Cochrane Fire Bylaw.
