Cochrane RCMP received two calls the morning of October 24, relating to two break and enters at local Cochrane businesses.

RCMP first attended to West Valley Chiropractic Centre on West Aarsby Road where unknown suspects gained access by prying open the front door. The office was searched but nothing was taken.

The second incident occurred at Weight Loss Office at 5th Avenue West. RCMP say at this business the lock was broken on the main door and petty cash was taken.

While many people may think businesses with a high cash transaction rate would be more targeted, Cochrane RCMP, Constable Jennifer Brewer, says you never know the motive of the break in.

"You never really know what is going through someone's head until you actually arrest them, they might have thought this was a place that had a small cash box or with the chiropractic they wouldn't know if there were meds on site or what have you. It is hard to say why they would choose these instead of place with more cash or more items they could pawn at a later date."

Constable Brewer, adds businesses can try some precautionary measures in hopes to not become victimized.

"Not keeping large amounts of cash on site, having a light on at the entry point, and checking in on your office from time to time to through the night."

At this time it is not known whether the two incidents are related or not.

If you have any information regarding the break and enters, you are asked to call the Cochrane Detachment at 403-851-8000 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
