Two local businesses made their contribution to the Big Hill Haven Women's Shelter's cause this week.

The Strand Hair Salon located in Grande Avenue Village, presented a cheque for $500 to Big Hill on Thursday. Owner, Claire Darby said, " I am so pleased to have been able to link up our 2nd anniversary party and to bring in a charity in like Big Hill Haven it was just wonderful."

The second donation came from The Beer Den located at #29 31 Bow St., to the tune of $449 that was raised through a beer festival on February 21st. Owner Nicole Murphy says, "Anytime there is an opportunity to support something that will empower women and give them a second chance and a new start is something I'm definitely going to support."

The Big Hill Haven was founded in 2016 in order to address the lack of safe shelter and resources for women and families fleeing domestic violence in Cochrane and area. Big Hill Haven is currently working on collecting capital to get and actual brick and mortar shelter built while at the same time, providing the support services that are needed right now. Over the past 18 months Big Hill Haven has assisted more that 150 women and children living with domestic violence.
