Talented young Cochrane curlers continue to have an impact upon the provincial curling scene.

Two U18 men's teams with Cochrane connections have now qualified for the provincials.

Team Wipf, which includes Cochrane lead Max Cinnamon, was prequalified for the provincials as the top team in the U18 Alberta Junior Curling Tour.

Team Wright, which includes third Ky Macaulay, joined them after winning a berth at a qualifier over the weekend in Okotoks. The team is coached by Gord Copithorne and Wayne Macdonald of the Cochrane area.

At provincial qualifier, Wright beat Team Morlock, 10-4, in six ends to advance to the provincial.

It's the second season for the Wright rink.

Ky MacaulayCochrane's Ky Macaulay is the third for Team Wright that qualified over the weekend for the U18 provincials.

It's been a storied season for Team Wipf that is skipped by Kenan Wipf, of the North Hill Curling Club, and coached by Penny Duncan.

Cinnamon is in his first season with the rink after being invited to join by his cousin Kenan. The team competes in both U18 and U20.

Among their many victories was the U20 side of the Cochrane Junior Bonspiel held in early November.

That victory was particularly sweet for Cinnamon. The 18-year-old is in his tenth year of curling out of Cochrane and is a veteran of the junior scene.

Also winning in Cochrane's November junior bonspiel was Team Bakker in U20 girls and Team Desormeau in U15 girls.

The Hinton Curling Club is hosting the U18 men's championship from Jan. 12 to 16.
