The identity of a deceased man found near Waiparous Creek in the early hours of May 5, has been confirmed.

Dr. David Lertzman, a Senior Professor at the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business has died in what is suspected to be a bear attack.

A well-known professor, Dr. Lertzman’s research had a focus on sustainable development and leadership with indigenous peoples. His most recent work was dedicated to better understanding and improving the social, ecological, and cross-cultural performance of the indigenous community and energy sector.

Lertzman was said to be an avid outdoorsman.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife is working with RCMP the medical examiner's office to determine what kind of animal or animals were involved.

The area will remain closed as officers attempt to capture the animal.
