UPDATE Monday afternoon, parents/guardians received an email confirming a third active case of COVID-19 has been discovered in RancheView.

Original story follows.

RancheView school in Sunset Ridge has confirmed a second active case of COVID-19. In a letter sent out to parents/guardians of students at RancheView, it was also confirmed that the school has been declared a COVID-19 outbreak.

"Two or more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at RancheView School, 2 Sundown Rd. Cochrane, AB T4C 0X8. As a result, the Medical Officer of Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at RancheView School. Public Health staff are investigating to determine who may have been exposed at your school to cases of COVID-19 during their infectious period. The virus is passed from person to person by large, respiratory droplets, like from a cough or sneeze. This means that a person would need to have direct contact with droplets from a sick person or surfaces that they have recently touched. The risk of the general population in the school becoming infected because of these cases is low"

For an outbreak to be declared, two or more cases of COVID-19 must be confirmed in a school setting within a 14 day period and the outbreak status will be lifted when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school in 28 days.

As of 10 am Monday morning, Alberta's online map has yet to be updated to include RancheView, which should bring Cochrane's number to one active outbreak.
