UPDATE Free tickets to "Onward" drive-in available Friday

An overwhelming response has made it necessary to issue tickets for the free June 6 drive-in that will feature the recently released Pixar film "Onward."

Two hundred tickets will be available tomorrow, Friday, May 29, at Cochrane Toyota, 8 River Heights Dr., starting at 1 p.m. Should any tickets remain available after the weekend, they can be obtained on Eventbrite.

It's important to note no tickets will be issued prior to 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Tickets will be limited to one vehicle per household. Cochrane Toyota continues to practice strict social distance for the safety of its customers and employees. You can feel safe picking up your ticket there.

No vehicle will be admitted to the drive-in without a ticket.

Only announced six days ago by the Young Professionals Rotary Club of Cochrane, news of the drive-in movie went viral and within a short time over 5,600 people indicated they planned to attend. With only 200 vehicles allowed, likely less than a thousand people can be accommodated.

"The community’s excitement has surpassed our expectations, and for this, we are very grateful," says Ryan Baum of the Young Professionals Rotary Club."We look forward to an evening of great fun in generous support of our local food bank, managed by the Cochrane Activettes."

All proceeds from the evening, both monetary and nonperishable goods donations, will aid the food bank.

Due to the response, Baum says they are planning an encore drive-in movie on Canada Day.

With one drive-in under their belt, there may be more than 200 tickets available the second time around. They had originally estimated they could accommodate 300 vehicles for the June 6 event but opted to reduce the number for the first showing to make sure they have all their safeguards in place.
