SWT is upgrading its grain terminal at Antelope, about 43 kilometres west of Swift Current.

General Manager Monty Reish says it was time to look at making some improvements to the 25-year-old facility.

He says the work being done will move them in line with some of the brand new elevator builds.

He points out that a lot of the grain trains are upwards of 147 cars now, adding their typical speed to load those trains was anywhere from 16 to 18 hours, but with the upgrades they're making that time will drop to somewhere around nine hours to load.

"That's a significant improvement in speed, and then from an unloading truck perspective, we'll get a couple more trucks in here throughout the hour. So every little bit counts."

Reish says they'll be able to load cars a little quicker, and unload trucks quicker, making sure they can keep up with the supply chain which is continuing to improve.

He says their goal is to make sure that they're on top of their efficiencies, by getting trains loaded in a very short order, and getting them off to the coast to get that product exported.

While the grain elevator will be shut down for about six weeks for the upgrades, the chemical and fertilizer operations will remain open.
