Utility work that is taking place at Rolling Range Drive and George Fox Trail is reliability work.

Alana Antonelli, Fortis Alberta, Corporate Communications Manager, says the lines they are putting underground will provide more electricity to Cochrane and the surrounding area.

"It's part of larger project to increase capacity overall for Cochrane and area. Just to ensure with the growth and everything that's been happening there, there is enough capacity for the residences and businesses."

The work was to be completed before Christmas but due to extremely cold weather the utility construction will be extended.

"The crews will be out until December 21 and cleaning up for Christmas and they'll be coming back again for the first week of January. Depending on the weather they plan to be completed by January 31."

Antonelli adds workers will be back in spring to do some final landscaping and clean up.

Fortis is asking drivers to please use caution when passing construction crews.
