One or more individuals at Springbank Middle School has tested positive for a COVID-19 variant.

The grade five to eight school is currently listed under 'Outbreak Status' on the Alberta Health Services School Status Map showing between five and nine active cases of COVID-19.

In a letter sent home to parents yesterday, March 22, 2021. Principal Mary Magee states that of those positive cases "one or more have recently been identified as having a COVID-19 variant of concern (VOC)."

Magee says that anyone who has been identified as a close contact will be contacted directly by Alberta Health Services (AHS)  and they will be provided with additional information on testing recommendations and quarantine requirements. No further information will be released to protect the identity of the affected individual(s).

The Middle School remains open with strict protocols in place to protect students and staff, and Magee says that they are following the recommendations of AHS and Alberta Education.

Parents are urged to call Health Link at 811 if they have any specific questions or concerns.

More information can be found on the variants of concern here.
