What was once a big gray space was transformed into a colourful work of art on Thursday.

Professional and Amateur artists were at the Zero Gravity Skatepark painting murals, and stencils onto the well used area.

Town of Cochrane Arts and Culture partnered with Recreation and Culture, The Inside, Shredz, and Art School Skate Boards to make the Street Art Skate Park project happen.

Levi Switzer, Director of youth outreach group, The Inside, says the event was a great idea.

"It's actually really awesome," he says. "If you get some really great art kids are going to slow down a lot on vandalism. It also allows people to have ownership so kids can come and won't treat it poorly, they treat it like home."

Switzer adds the event could also get more parents involved at the skatepark.

"At this point the youth will go home and ask their parents to come check out what they did, it just gets more kids involved in the sport, off the couch, and keeps them away from violence and drugs."
