The Cochrane and Area Events Society is putting out a call to volunteers for the Enmax Teddy Bear Toss and they will provide you with a ticket to the game.

The much-loved annual event is set for Sunday, December 4 at the Calgary Hitmen game.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Teddy Bear Toss, spectators take a teddy bear to the Hitmen game and when they score their first goal, everyone throws their teddy bears onto the ice. The bears are then collected by volunteers to be distributed to various charitable donations.

Each year, the Cochrane and Area Events Society volunteers attend the event and bring back hundreds of teddy bears for local kids.

Once again, CAES will be attending the toss and is looking for some volunteers that would like to help. Marina Chabbert with CAES says, “As a committee, we decided to purchase tickets for anybody who wanted to assist us with the sorting and bagging of the teddy bears that they receive at the game. We have had some people step forward, but we still have room to purchase more tickets if people want to step up and come and help at the game. It is a lot of fun!”

Volunteers that attend are either tasked with picking the teddy bears up off the ice so the game can proceed or help sort the thousands of teddy bears that are collected from the ice.

Chabbert says that CAES has requested 500 bears for Cochrane.

The game starts at 2 p.m. but volunteers are asked to be there an hour early to receive instructions. CAES will provide the game ticket, but you will need to provide your own transportation.

If you would like to volunteer and attend the game and help CAES with the Teddy Bear Toss, you can email caes.cochraneevents@gmail.com or message on the CAES Facebook page.
