Hawthorne Cochrane residents got their wish for a Cruise Cochrane drive-by on Saturday, July 9.

Some came outside to watch from different vantage points, and many more watched from their windows.

A drive-by of all the senior homes in town had been scheduled for earlier in the season but was cancelled due to poor weather.

Hawthorne residents made a special request for the car parade and organizer Jim Messner says they couldn't refuse.

"They'll be waiting for us and we'll come and do the cruise by, honking our horns and waving, just letting them know that even though the pandemic hopefully looks like it's over, we haven't forgotten them."

Later on, the cavalcade headed north for an afternoon cruise in ideal conditions, despite a severe thunderstorm watch being issued by Environment Canada.

Located in the Fireside community, Hawthorne offers both supportive living and memory care.
