How noisy can you make your bike sound?

That was the goal of over a dozen kids enjoying the first Loud 3k Ride of Bike Cochrane on June 24.

Bike Cochrane officials provided several ways to generate sound. Cyclist Nash added a squished can to amplify the sound of his front tire.

"The can by the front wheel went from being kind of quiet to really loud in about five seconds," he says with a grin of satisfaction.

For Henry, it was all about the chance to be noisy.

"It's super fun to make noise, and my dad doesn't like it," he said with glee.

Paul Perrault, Bike Cochrane's director of operations, says it's one of their many family-friendly group bike rides.

Group Ride Coordinator Shane Hudson created this one.

"He knows from his own family that kids love sticking things in their bikes to make fun sounds," says Perrault. "He pulled together playing cards, Spoke-a-Dokes, bells, bike bells, and kazoos with the idea that kids love to make noise.  And what better way to do that, than to have them outside and riding their bikes together."

Perrault says Bike Cochrane appreciates the sponsorship of Calbridge Developments for the event.

"We're grateful to Calbridge Developments and all our corporate sponsor for coming along for the ride and helping us to continue to build the community we have here in Cochrane."

The summer months are idle for such activities so families can enjoy their holidays and time together, but after that it picks up again.

"We'll be starting more of our group activities and family-friendly activities in September," says Perrault. "We'll be starting with Bike and Barbecue Night at our Buffalo Bean Trail system, then continue with pathway, gravel, and mountain bike group rides."

The season wraps up with the return of their Glow Ride on Oct. 11 in Mitford Park that attracted over 100 riders during its debut last year.
