Cochrane RCMP do not believe this was a targeted event or that the thieves knew the police ID would be there. Mounties are aware that with this ID in the hands of criminals it could be used to impersonate an RCMP officer and citizens are reminded that they can request identification from anyone identifying themselves as a police officer and can also call the police non-emergency number to confirm an officers identity.

If you have any information about this incident you are asked to call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
