While Cochrane is in the middle of a cold snap, A lot of people are keeping their pets inside where they can stay safe and warm. Cochrane has a high population of dogs and cats but what happens when our pets get out of the house?

Marc Gillon, Community Peace Officer for the Town of Cochrane says that even in extreme weather their process stays the same “ If we do see a dog running around without an owner, we would use all the tools at our disposal. It’s no different than a summer day, we try and catch that dog and get them back to their owner. If need be, back to our holding facility and of course using all of our tools, such as tattoos, microchips and town licenses.”

If you see a dog out without an owner in town, Gillon says there are ways you can help. “If you are comfortable with it, we actually have people catch the dogs. They can then hold onto them and give us a shout. Then we of course come and collect the dog.”

Frostbite can affect dogs just like humans. If you see any pets without their owner in town, you can contact the Community Peace Officers at 403-851-2532.
