A potentially treacherous wildfire burning in the Morley area is being held to just 1.25 hectares after wildfire crews aggressively attacked it last night.

The report came in at 6:40 p.m. yesterday and response was swift to prevent it from spreading in tinder-dry conditions. A crew comprised of two airtankers, four helicopters and 21 wildland firefighters initially attacked the blaze and worked it until 11 p.m. last night. There are 20 wildland firefighters back on site this morning to assess and work the fire.

A blaze sparked Tuesday in extremely dry conditions. Details on the cause are not available at this time.

According to the wildfire situation report, it is believed to be man-caused and 18 people have been assigned to combat it. We are awaiting more details from Alberta Wildlife officials.

The fire came just one day after a forest closure was issued for a section of the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) southwest of here.. No public access is allowed south of Hwy. 532 in the protection area, however Hwy. 22 and 3 remain open for through traffic. The communities of Hazell, Sentinel, Tecumseh, Coleman, Bushtown, Blairmore, Frank, Hillcrest Mines, Bellevue and Bermis are exempt from the closure.

The ban on the use of Off-Highway Vehicles continues in CFA.
