The Cochrane and Area Humane Society are pulling pranks to raise awareness for their new Rehabilitation and Education Centre Capital Campaign.

The organization has two sets of mischievous gnomes visiting homes here in town, and in Airdrie, if the gnomes land on your front lawn, you can "gnominate" a friend's house for a donation to the building of the centre.

The gnomes will then show up on the "gnominated" lawn the following day.

Cochrane and Area Humane Society Fund Development Officer Jaimie Anton says the campaign is just a way to have a little fun.

"What we're trying to do is bring some awareness to our Rehabilitation and Education Centre Capital Campaign, so we thought we'd figure out a fun way where people would get a kick out of it," she says. "We were just chatting about a way to put it out there in the community, and we thought that lawn gnomes are quite funny and friendly."

She says the Humane Society is close to reaching its goal of $850,000 for the new centre, and are pushing to reach the goal soon as construction has already started on 4000 square foot building.

The gnomes will be visiting different communities in town for one week, and started their adventure in Riverview this morning.
