Over the past few weeks, The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary has been on an emergency wolfdog rescue mission that resulted in 13 animals being saved. 10 of the animals saved are wolfdogs that will now call the sanctuary home.

Alyx Harris, the manager of the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary explains where the sanctuary's newest residents came from. “Unfortunately, I’m not able to go into too much detail on where they came from quite yet, It's still an ongoing investigation. Basically, these wolfdogs came from a cruelty case where they just weren't in the best conditions, and unfortunately, that meant that they were at risk of being euthanized. We were able to step in and save a total of 13, 10 were wolfdogs that we'll be seeing here at the sanctuary with us as our new permanent residents."

“Three of those animals that we saved of the 13 were actually sleddogs. So after we have gotten them all fed up, they'll be going to Garcia Rescue so that they can actually be adopted out.”

Harris says that the rescue of the animals is what the sanctuary is all about. “It was something that came to light and we wanted to do what we could to save these animals since, really, they did nothing wrong and they deserve a chance to get to live out a wonderful life.”

With the recently rescued animals joining the sanctuary, it brings their total number of wolfdogs to 37.

“We will need to build enclosures this coming spring. They are in containment now, it's just more, kind of a temporary solution for the moment. We've got absolutely more mouths to feed. It just takes longer even just, you know, the work to get those guys to be a little bit more comfortable with us but taking the time to go and hang out with them and for them to get to know us so it is more work for sure but we adapted.”

The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary has a special link set up on their website for Cochranites to donate directly to the care of the newest wolfdogs.

“We have basically a donation form that is specifically going to be for the animals, their care, the whole rescue mission, and even for things like building enclosures this coming spring.”
