The Cochrane Public Library has added yet another category to their wealth of items in their library of things.

Now available are traditional picnic games, thanks to some deep discounts offered by a supplier.

Andrea Johnston, community outreach and program librarian, says the idea of bringing in picnic games stuck a chord, especially with the restrictions we've endured during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Once this is all said and done, I know family reunions, parties are going to be a big thing, and we want to help support that in a fun way," says Johnston. "So, I thought, what about traditional picnic games? Wouldn't that be cool!"

She says there's plenty of traditionally games, plus a few you may not commonly see, like hoppers, something she says are hysterical to use.

On July 24, staff members had a blast while using their abundance of creativity to shoot a short promo video.

Library assistant Bev Wiebe was behind the camera for the production that saw community outreach and program librarian Andrea Johnston, aka Good Time Sam,  and new community librarian Jessie Pepin, aka Flapper Girl,  were the stars.

Th Cochrane Public Library keeps adding to the wealth of items they lend to the public.

"We have board games, we have telescopes, we have power tools, we have gardening tools. This is just another thing that we want to offer to our community for free," she said while listing off some of the items you can check out from the library.

Those viewing the promo will only get a glimpse of exactly how much fun it was to use some of the games in while producing the video.

"We don't want it to be too, too long because we want it to be kind of a trailer, so it will be nice and quick so people can see what we have, see how much fun it is and come check it out."

Johnston says they hope to release the brief video on Monday, July 27 on their social media outlets and website.
