Mothers hold a special place in all of our hearts.

Next Sunday, we'll all be saluting them as part of a worldwide celebration.

The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee is holding a special event leading up to Mother's Day, with both them and their children at heart.

They are inviting all Cochrane area youth, ages 2 to 17, to enter the Mother's Day Youth Poster Celebration, May 4 to 8.

For a chance to win, Cochrane youth can post their posters on the Newcomers Cochrane Facebook page or drop them off in the wooden mailbox at 93 Riverview Circle.

There will be five random draws for prizes generously donated by Cochrane McDonald's and the Cochrane Bottle Depot.

The winners will receive a McHappy Meal plus a $20 gift certificate for their mom, redeemable at one of five local restaurants: The Boot, Yoshi Grill, Mehtab East Indian Cuisine, OPA! of Greece or Thanh Thy.

Candy Weisner, of the committee, says they wanted to do something special for youth.

"All of our events and activities, of course, welcome youth to attend, but none of them have been directed specifically to youth. So this is the first time that something specific for youth has been held, and we're hoping it goes well."

She says the committee appreciates the growing support of local businesses. The immigrant committee's membership and activities, too, continue to experience robust growth.

Recently they celebrated National Volunteer Week by holding draws for a gift certificate from Mehtab.

Entries are being accepted May 4 to 8. The first draw is being made on Tuesday.
