A Cochrane man has been charged with multiple child sexual exploitation offences. The Internet Child Exploitation unit along with Cochrane RCMP members arrested Bransyn Lyon at his Cochrane home on Tuesday. The 19-year-old is charged with distributing, accessing, and possessing child pornography, as well as three charges in relation to failing to comply with a release order. Lyon, who had faced prior charges related to child sexual exploitation offenses, was under existing release conditions that prohibited him from having electronic devices, unsupervised internet access, and any engagement with pornography. According to ICE, it is alleged that these conditions were violated. “ICE is concerned that the suspect continues to reoffend and has demonstrated little regard for his release conditions. Child exploitation offences remain on the rise in this province and our unit will remain diligent in targeting those that contribute to this unfortunate trend,” said Const. Erin Penner, ICE South. Several computers and electronic devices were confiscated from the the residence. Forensic analysis and evidence recovery are currently in progress, and the investigation will continue. In October 2023, ICE initiated its investigation based on information provided by the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Center. The data indicated that a suspect in Alberta was consistently sharing child sexual abuse materials through Snapchat. Lyon had previously faced charges connected to an investigation in Saskatchewan that occurred in July 2023.
