Winter Celebration includes a Canadian premiere

More and more people are discovering the joy of music offered by the two bands and choir of the Cochrane Music Society, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. Tomorrow, Sun. Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., they will be presenting a wide selection of music with winter and the holiday season in mind. It also marks their return to the Cochrane Alliance Church. Band director Adam Mailman says the Band of the Bow concert band will presenting the Canadian premiere of Aloft, composed by Steven Bryant. It's high energy and it's beautiful, and it's really uplifting," says Mailman. "When you listen to it, it changes the way you feel." He's proud of the Canadian content in their performance. "I think it's important that we make music that's from where we are and that represents the people that we have in our communities and our bands and find ways to make sure that that we use our platform to represent the country that we live in." Keystone, composed by Winnipeg's Matt Neufeld, is upbeat, engaging music that will boost your mood and energy. Night Highway was inspired by composer Nicholas Ryan Kelly's many late-night journeys along British Columbia's precarious mountain highways. Celebrate the magic of season with music society Over the years, long-time Cochranites have made the music society's winter celebration a family tradition. Mailman says they've noticed more new faces in the audience as well. "We're excited to see all our friends in the audience back again for another year and to make some new friends as well." "Our audience has grown quite a lot," he says. "It's been interesting to see how much our audience has grown over the last few years and how we're picking up lots of new fans from around town." Tickets can be purchased online here or at the door. Nonperishables will be accepted for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank.
