A four-week campaign aimed at supporting women's health initiatives and organizations was extremely successful.
Thanks to the support of patients, staff, and customers, Leithe Holowaty, Pharmacist/Owner of Cochrane Shoppers Drug Mart, presented a cheque to Big Hill Haven Women's Shelter on behalf of the 'Shoppers Love You' Growing Women's Health Campaign.
A donation of $12,642 was presented to board members of Big Hill Haven to support their work of keeping women and children safe and free from abuse. Although Big Hill Haven does not have a brick and mortar location as of yet, they do employ part-time Outreach Worker, Patti Fisher, who has been extremely busy connecting women in need with the right resources.
Ana Botelho-Clark, Co-Chair of Big Hill Haven shares the sizable donation is gratefully appreciated. "We are thrilled that Shoppers Drug Mart chose us as the recipient for their campaign this year. It was a big push on their part and it was very successful; it was the largest amount they have raised to date as part of this initiative."
For seventeen years, Shoppers Drug Mart has run the national campaign with each store being able to decide on a local level where they would like their funding to go. For Holowaty, supporting a Cochrane based charity is important. "Each year, our customers and staff demonstrate their generosity and their commitment to supporting women in our community, and we couldn’t be more proud of everyone’s contribution. Big Hill Haven Women’s Shelter is about to play an important role in our community and the proceeds from this year’s campaign will go a long way to helping them reach their goals.”
Botelho-Clark shares the money has not been earmarked, as of yet, and together as a board they will decide where the funds will best be utilized
In total, over 1360 Shoppers Drug Mart/Phamaprix locations raised funds for the Growing Women’s Health campaign, and since its inception in 2002, the initiative has raised more than $35 million for Canadian health charities.
