The Cochrane Lions believe age is no factor when it comes to celebrating romance.

With that in mind, they are hosting two Valentine's Dances at the Cochrane Lions Events Centre (CLEC), 109 5th Ave. There's one for the whole family on Friday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one for adults on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Both are equally affordable. Admission is only $5.00 per person for either and on Friday night it's free for children 3 and under. Each features a deejay and refreshments and food will be available. There's also the chance to win a 50-50 draw both evenings.

Friday night is a special Glow Night, especially for the children.

"Let's see if we can make the hall glow!" promotes the club. "Bring your glow bracelets, necklaces, sticks, glasses...the more the better!"

Glowsticks will also be available to purchase in case people need a little extra glow.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite for both dances, but they'll also be available at the door.

The Lions established the events centre to fill a desperately needed niche in Cochrane; a large, affordable and centrally located hall. The hall has been packed for numerous special events and activities since the transformation of the old curling rink started in May 2017. It continues to be upgraded regularly for the benefit of the community.

Special events, like Saturday's Kimmett Cup Banquet, have found a home at CLEC.Most recently, CLEC was home to the Kimmett Cup banquet on Feb. 9 and a week earlier it was packed for the annual Grand Valley Safari Club's annual charity dinner and raffle that raises upwards of $10,000 annually for charitable causes.

Spring Barn Dance Returns Apr. 13

The Lions hosted a Spring Barn Dance last April and that was exactly what the doctor ordered to get rid of that pent up cabin fever from winter.

Well, we're in the middle of our longest cold snap in 20 years and chances are people will want to renew their prescription this year.

The club has announced the Barn Dance is returning on Saturday, Apr. 13.

"Due to popular demand the Barn Dance is back," exclaims dance chair Kevin Firkus. "Watch for more details on ticket sales and be prepared to come and kick up your heels to the music of TC & Company."
